If you’re trying to live gluten free you’ve probably ran into some of the common hiccups when it comes to basic staples you were used to. Pasta was a tough nut to crack to find the right consistency and texture but far worse is bread. Most gluten free Breads are crumbly, or oddly spongy and none of them seem to hold up while making a sandwich.
If you’re lucky enough to live near a good gluten free bakery you might be able to get some fresh baked breads up to your usual standards, but most of us have to make due with what’s at the grocery store. Udi’s is a pretty solid choice and available in most stores and even amazon, but it seems to have the same durability issues most gluten free breads and buns do.
Recently a local grocer started selling Better Way brand gluten free breads so we gave it a shot. Overall it’s a really hearty bread. Great for sandwiches because it can be sliced without crumbling into little bits and keeps the contents together when trying to eat. In a pinch it’ll even hold up with a hamburger because the spongy consistency keeps it from falling apart from a big juicy burger. Better Way is also making inroads with distribution and is even available at Walmart making it accessible to people living gluten free all over the US.
While the texture is dense and that’s a real pro it also makes the bread a little heavier to chew and it holds the flavors it comes in contact with rather than standing apart from them. As far as drawbacks go, it’s really minor. All in all, we’d recommend giving A Better Way Gluten Free Breads a shot if you’re sick of flimsy crumbly gluten free breads.
